What is Rolfing?
Rolfing is unique way of seeing and working with the physical structure. It is a technique called Structural Integration for re-organizing the body. Rolfing brings each part of the body into alignment in all planes: left to right, front to back, up and down. A basic assertion is that our physical structure both reflects and affects the overall state of our being. I look at how each person organizes and uses their form, their habits, injuries, and how their personality and emotions shape their experiences. Rolfing achieves the balance our body needs to feel connected, whole, and vital.
What is the Rolfer looking for?
The Rolfing training tells me where and how to release those holding patterns that are preventing the full expression of your body. Releasing those specific, often rigid patterns allows your body to be free of pain, move with spring in the step, and live with more grace and aliveness. Contrary to popular belief, Rolfing is not deep-tissue work. In a series of sessions, Rolfing changes the structure of your body and provides lasting changes.
To get results does Rolfing need to be painful?
Rolfing should not be painful. The hands-on intervention to effect change is best done gently, and by not activating the body's defenses that are experienced as pain. Each session is specific to addressing the client's individual needs. Clients are asked to engage their subjective experience to embody and maintain the changes. This deepens the physical changes and the 'felt' sense that lead to lasting changes.
Rolfing is unique in its wholistic approach to seeing and achieving the potential in each of us.
